DUI Defense for Commercial Drivers
Individuals with a commercial driver’s license (CDL) rely upon his or her ability to drive for his or her livelihood. However, being on the road so much of the time does make them more prone to being charged with violations of traffic law such as DUI. In these cases, it is important for a commercial driver to work with a skilled defense attorney. At Gold & Witham, we understand just how important even a simple speeding ticket or red light violation can be to a truck driver—let alone a DUI arrest. As such, our attorneys use the utmost caution in working with these cases and truly take the time to provide aggressive and effective defense strategies.
Legal Consequences of Commercial Driving Crimes
Commercial drivers face increased penalties and a higher point assessment for traffic offenses. For them, the points assessed for any traffic violation will worth 1.5 times the normal amount assessed. For example, a driver with a Class A or Class B license will receive 1.5 points on his or her driving record for a speeding ticket, rather than the 1 point a Class C driver would face.
Traffic School Is NOT an Option for Commercial Drivers
Traffic school is not an option for a driver with a commercial driver’s license. Attending traffic school will mask a traffic citation on a Class C driver’s license, but will have no effect on a CDL record. If you are a commercial driver who has received any type of traffic citation, an attorney at Gold & Witham may be able to help you. Our lawyers understand just what is at stake and will fight to help contest your ticket so that you can protect your right to drive!
